Walks by Bus/Rail
June 6, 2007 by fatstevewalks
A growing collection of great walks easily accessible by bus and/or rail from Dublin, complete with full directions to get to and do the walk, description and photos of the walking route. Includes urban, rural and mountain walks, from gentle to tough.
There are many good walks accessible by public transport in the Dublin region, sometimes going out and returning on the same route, others walking from one transport point to another. Week by week here, Fat Steve will build up a comprehensive collection of them, complete with full instructions for using public transport to get to and from them.
This sort of info really should be listed in the Dublin Bus timetable . . but isn’t!
These will be mostly city, park or seaside walks, generally flat, paved, and less than 2km (or optionally longer)
Medium Walks
These will be longer walks, more than an hour, or walks over rougher pathways, which may require a little planning
Bray Head Walk - a stunning two hour clifftop walk from Greystones to Bray, mostly along a well marked path, with great views across the Irish Sea. Suitable for most people, but children with caution.
Kilcock to Maynooth along the Royal Canal - A lovely walk through the heart of the North Kildare countryside, very flat, and suitable for most people.
Tough Walks (coming soon)
Longer walks, several hours, rough tracks or no tracks, significant hill-climbing or steep sections, planning involved.
