The aim of this site is twofold: to share some of the great walks which are accessible around the Dublin area, and to illustrate how many of them can be easily accessed by public transport.
As the weeks go by I intend to catalogue some of best walks I know, and share my discovery of new ones.
As I do them, I’ll share my success or failure in the blog, and when I’m sure I have the right photos and info, I’ll write them up either in the “Walks by Bus/Rail” or the “Walks by Car” sections. I’ll also try to photograph and write about any interesting sights or history along the way.
These walks should be possible for most people – Fat Steve is, as the name implies, not at the peak of fitness, so if I can do these, they are probably possible for any reasonable adult.
Of course, I’m trying to get fit – one of the other reasons for this site is that Fat Steve wants to become Fit Steve, and keeping up the blog is one way of making sure I don’t lapse into bad habits.
When I was young, I used to cycle all over Co. Dublin, and could waltz up and down most hills and mountains without a second thought.
It’s a long road back to there, but I’m taking the first steps . .

I love your blog. We’re going to give the Bray Head walk a go. It’s a great idea to start from Greystones. Thanks for the tip.
Wow Steve, this is a great site. Well done. I too, hanker to get back to that fitness we took for granted. Look forward to trying out some of your walks.
Hey Steve,
What happened? I hope you are now Fit Steve? I just stumbled across your blog here, and it’s a real shame you didn’t keep it up. Dublin needs a blog like this and you did it so well, great detail, great pics and nice conversational style. Hope you are well.
Warm regards,
A fellow waddler.
